INDOOR BASKETBALL
Women’s Tournament There was a large gallery at the Women’s Indoor Basketball inter-provin-cial tournament which was held in the Garrison Hall on Saturday night. - Included on the programme was a Men’s basketball match between two of the leading teams, University A and Boys A. This resulted in a win for University by 26 points to 20. In the women’» games Otago A beat Canterbury A by 29 points to 17 and Otago B lost to Southland B, 29—16. The game between Canterbury and Otago was particularly fast with the home side attacking for most of the match The defence was also sound and the score was a good indication of the team’s respective merits. Prominent among the Otago players were V. Townsend who scored 10 points, M. Ramshaw and V. Williams. For Canterbury, B. Newey -and L. Luxton made the most, of their opportunities on attack. The positional play and combination of the Southland team proved too much for the comparatively inexperienced Otago side and the result was seldom in doubt. N. Ryan who was in good form scored 14 of Southland’s points and L. Osborne was a sound defence. The Otago defence, although not equal to the occasion, helped to keep the score down. N. Thomson was outstanding in this phase of play and H. Peacock justified her inclusion in the team by scoring seven points. To conclude the tournament a match was played between Canterbury A and Southland B. Although playing out of Its grade Southland gave a game display but was beaten 31—10.
