Cleaning Of Memorial
TENDERS ACCEPTED
Recommendations adopted at last night’s monthly meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council gave authority for cleaning all marble work and resetting marble slabs where required on the Great War Memorial. The recommendations of the Works Committee were:— That Messrs Williams Bros, tender of £75 for cleaning all marble work on the memorial be accepted; that where required. the work bf removing and resetting marble slabs be carried out by Messrs Williams Bros, on the basis of time and material costs; that the tender of Messrs G. T. Gillies, Ltd., of £SO, for supplying and erecting scaffolding round the memorial to enable the work to be carried out, be accepted. Cr E. S. Stubbs asked if there was any proposal to clean the bronze statue. He understood that it would be a mistake to clean the bronze. He was informed that the matter had been referred to the superintendent of reserves, Mr John Tait, for report.
