SIR APIRANA NGATA

Sjr,— The Passing of that distinguished politician and highly cultured gentleman. Sir Apirana Ngata, brings to my memory £? experience which was mine during the Great War. It so happened that I was walking along Princes street when a voice said, “ Hallo, soldier.” On looking towards the voice I was greeted wtih an outstretched hand and a request to lunch with a “ Maori stranger.” The invitation was accepted with the utmost goodwill. The • hospitality which th. Maori stranger” showered on me lingers in my memory. Of course, we introduced ourselves and much to my surprise and delight my new Maori acquaintance was no other than the Hon. Apirana Ngata. For such is the spirit of our Maori friends.—l am, etc., Fond Memories.
