GOALS DECIDE MATCH
Dunedin Beats Kaikorai Heavy rain, which fell at Intervals on a ground that already resembled a quagmire, did not make for attractive Rugby at Bishopscourt, when Dunedin defeated Kaikorai by 11 points to 3. Good handling was virtually impossible among the backs, although there were flashes of bright play, and the forwards were obliged to keep the ball at their feet. It was a day for the kicker, and R. Matchett scored the only try of the match for Dunedin In the second spell. Kalkorai’s forwards took the offensive at the beginning, but wilted later In the game. Dunedin was well served by its half-' back, A. Beck, who handled the greasy ball well, while L. D. Lawrence, at first five-eighth, made some good thrusts as well as kicking extremely well. He kicked two penalty goals and converted a try. T. Ryan also made some good runs on the wing. C. Todd was absent from the Dunedin scrum, but E. Fitzgerald hooked competently. Those.prominent in the Dunedin pack were J. Riach, J. Skinner and P. O’Malley. W. Montgomery, centre three-quarter, was the best of the Kaikorai backs, and made some fine runs. W. Barkman, at full-back, saved his side on several occasions with good line-kicks, and B. Corsbie impressed on the wing. L. Thompson, A. J. Murray and L. Corcoran worked hard in the Kaikorai forwards, but, the Dunedin pack had the edge on Kaikorai for most of the game.
