NEW FIRE ENGINE

Delivery Date Undecided “ While we can get the engine, and we have an option over a chassis, I cannot say when the new fire engine will be ready for delivery,"- Mr W. Williams, chairman of the Oamaru Fire Board, said at the annual smoke concert of the Oamaru Volunteer Fire Brigade on Saturday night. No advice had been received from the body builders as to the time of delivery, he said, but it would probably be some time before the engine was in the station During the war, Superintendent C. Nightingale said, the equipment of the brigade had deteriorated, but the board had given every assistance in its replacement. The new engine, for which application had been made, would place the Oamaru Brigade on a reasonable footing compared with other brigades in the Dominion. When he saw the old equipment he felt the brigade was lacking in something, but this was gradually being put right. The Mayor, Mr M. F. E. Cooney, congratulated the board on making application for a new engine. The Dennis, he said, had served its purpose. Members of the brigade could not be expected to give the utmost service with obsolete equipment.
