FIRE BRIGADE
Efficient Service " To-day the brigade in Oamaru is just as efficient as any in New Zealand,’’ the mayor, Mr M. F. E. Cooney, said at the annual smoke concert of the Oamaru Volunteer Fire Brigade on Saturday night. “ The members are rendering a service some residents forget about until they are required,” he said. The board had every confidence in the work of the brigade, Mr W. Williams, chairman of the board, said. It felt sure that members would continue to build, in the coming year, on an establishment which any young man would be pleased to join. The following service honours were presented :—Sup. C. Nightingale (17 years), silver bar; Deputy. Sup., R. Hinkley (42), silver bar; hon. surgeon, Dr R. S. J. Orbell (36), silver bar; hon. surgeon, Dr A. M. Aitken (3), three years’ cerificate; Foreman I. Nightingale (39), gold bar; Foreman J. Henderson (26), gold bar; Fireman D. G. Dennison (17), gold bar; Fireman V. E. Doran (20), gold bar; Motorman F. Nightingale (11), silver bar; Fireman C. J. Sullivan (10), L. Park (9), O. Gould (7), T. E. Goodall (7), E. J. Goodall (7), D. S. Kearns (7), silver bars; Firemen A. Hamilton (2). H. Meehan (2), K. Harney (2), L. Doran (1), and A. Wilson (1). certificates.
