Special Holiday Camps
Holiday camps, some on the coasts and some inland, where people can take a course of physical fitness during their annual holidays, are -part of the plans envisaged by the Minister of Internal Affairs Mr Bodkin, for improving the health of New Zealand. The Minister told the New Zealand Council of Sport that in the past grants totalling £50.000 had been made to sporting organisations which, he was satisfied, could have gone on with their work without these grants, and he was hopeful that this money would be diverted a better purpose. Holiday centres were one avenue he had in mind, said the Minister, but his ideas were not completed, and he would largely be guided by advice from the Health and Education Departments. He would also ask the opinion of the defence authorities. The Minister added that the Council of Sport organisation would be of great assistance when the time came to put his scheme into operation.
