FORMER ITALIAN SHIP

Captured During The War Captured from the Italians during the war, the freighter Rubystone saw service with the British Ministry of Transport before she was acquired by her present owners. The Rubystone was built at the shipyards of Cantiere Navale Apuania, in Italy, in 1926. and was launched as the Monte Piana. In 1941 she was bombed and sunk by the British in one of the ports in the Gulf of Suez. Later refloated, she was taken over by the British Ministry of Transport and renamed the Empire Baron. After the war she was purchased by the Alva Steam Ship Company, which is her present owner. . . , Now under charter to the British India Steam Navigation Company, she is carrying cargo from Eastern ports.
