Jackie Coogan Becomes A
Salesman SAN FRANCISCO, Rec. 7.30 p.m. May 30 Jackie Coogan, who as a child actor captivated millions, said today that he had “ quit show business to sell a kitchen gadget because I can not get a job in Hollywood.” Balding 35-year-old Coogan added: “ But it does not worry me. I do not want to work in pictures anymore, anyway.” Coogan said he had become a sales promotion advertising manager for a ventilating hood for kitchen stoves. Coogan gained world fame when at the age of four he appeared with Charlie Chaplin in "The Kid.” He maintained a front rank position as a child actor until he was 15. In eleven years he earned more than 6,000,000 dollars but he saw little of it. Coogan when 21 sued his mother and stepfather for accounting of the money which they handled for him. There remained only 450,000 dollars.
