Projected Restoration

Recent developments in the projected restoration of the graves of Thomas Redpath and Dr Manning, early South Otago identities, were reported on - at the annual meeting of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association last night. The local branch of the British Medical Association had contributed £SO towards Dr Manning's grave, it was stated, a donation of £3O had been received from relatives, and the association had granted £lO. Mr Gray Somerville, of Balclutha. reported that an English descendant of Thomas Redpath had visited South Otago and had inspected the bush grave of the early storekeeper. He had expressed the hone that restoration would be effected and had given £3O towards this end. The Businessmen’s Association in Balclutha intended to mark spots of historical interest, said Mr Somerville, and had begun by erecting a stone on the site of Redpath’s store.
