PRESSURE REDUCED

Gas Supply in Oamaru SHORTAGE OF COAL Because the transportation of coal has been temporarily dislocated, the gas pressure will be reduced in Oamaru, except during certain periods. This decision has been made by the Oamaru Borough Council. Recent flooding on the West Coast has damaged several bridges with the result that West Coast coal will not be available for the gasworks until the bridges are repaired. The gas pressure will be reduced, except during the following periods: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Consumers are also requested to co-operate in conserving gas at all times. The Daily Times was told yesterday that there was about two weeks' supply of coal on hand at the gasworks. West Coast coah was the only type suitable for burning in the retorts. The position was such that further supplies of coal might not be received for some time.
