TRAFFIC OFFENCES
Forty-one Cases Forty traffic offenders were dealt with in 30 minutes at a total cost—to them — of £7O 2s by Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. This figure consisted of £SO in fines and £2O 2s in court costs. Another defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was later fined £l. Costs, with one exception, were fixed at 10s. Parking Breaches For parking in a prohibited area Robert Wolsey Campbell, James Alexander Bruce, Peter Hollings, Frederick Ainslee Kennedy, Carl Edward Larsen, Doreen Stack, Alfred Nevile Sculpher and Ray James Spiers were each fined £l. For a similar offence, Douglas Henderson Hastings, John David Marquet and Edna Miles were each fined 10s. For parking oyer the time limit, Samuel Francis Knight, James McKechie and Lance Charles Tonkin were each fined £l. Fines of 10s were imposed on William Coppin, Colin McDonald Graham, Ronald James Nicholson, Wilbur Stewart and Alan Winstanley Wilkin for similar offences. Raymond Ferrier was fined 10s for having his vehicle parked facing oncoming traffic. A fine of £1 was imposed on John Hannah for parking on a taxi stand. Dulcie Evely Hunter was similarly fined for parking in front of a theatre. Leonard Ernest Omond, who parked on a footpath, and Wilfred Bruce Quennel, who parked on a fire plug, were fined 10s and £1 respectively. Speed Limit Exceeded For exceeding the speed limit, Eric James Mercer was fined £7 10s, Donald Alexander Grey £3, and Bernard Frank Keene £2 10s No Licences For not having a driver’s licence, Raymond Mervyn Connor was fined £2. Sydney Walter Freeman and James Stanley Stoddart were each fined £2 for operating without a heavy traffic licence. Alexander Watt, who conducted his own defence, denied a charge of driving without due care and attention. After hear-’ ing the evidence, the magistrate imposed a fine of £l. A desperate bid to get to a lecture in time cost Leonard Peter Hendra 10s for riding his motor cycle across the Museum Reserve. Samuel Thomas Inder and Patrick O’Gorman were each fined £1 for having no warrant of fitness. Insufficient lights on his venicle cost Stanley Joseph Hicks £1 and Robert Wolsey Campbell was similarly fined for driving across a footway. John Duncan Litten was fined £1 and costs (12s) for leading a horse along a footway. For allowing a horse to stray, Daniel Hammond Bracks was fined £1 10s. Isabella Maloney, who allowed two heifers to wander in the Wakari district, was fined £2.
Gladys Emily McGregor was fined £2 for failing to give way to traffic on her right and Eric Milne Glover was fined £1 for failing to signal
