Kent And Hampshire Match Ends In Tie NZPA —Copyright LONDON, May 30. The cricket match between Hampshire and Kent ended dramatically in a tie today—the first time a county game has finished in this way since 1947. When Hampshire batted the second time the side needed 153 runs to win. They passed 100 with only half the side out, but keen Kent bowling and fielding resulted in Hampshire needing 15 runs with the last wicket pair together. Mainly by singles the batsmen gradually approached their objective, but with the scores level, one of the batsmen was caught in the slips. Results of games:— Kent: First innings 162 (Evans 71); second innings 170 (Knott five for 46). Hampshire: First innings 180 (Wright six for 91; Dovey four for 31); second innings 152. The match ended in a tie. Worcester: First innings 409 (Outschoorn 140, Whiting 118); second innings three for 225 (Kenyon 84, Cooper 79) Essex: First innings 350 (Insole 105). The match was drawn. Middlesex: First innings 319 (Sharp 84. Thompson 80; Oakes five for 57): second innings six for 234 declared (W. Edrich not out 152). Sussex: First innings 257 (James Langridge not out 92); second innings eight for 253. The match was drawn.
