LONG-RANGE ROCKETS

High Degree Of . Firing Accuracy AMERICA’S OBJECTIVE NZPA—Copyright Rec. 9 p.m. NEW YORK, May 30. ■ United States missile experts expect soon to fire long-range rockets with the same accuracy as a rifle marksman firing at a target. This was stated in Jacksonville today by Colonel Turner, deputy commander of the new longrange proving ground in Florida. He said guided missiles were nothing more than the extension of artillery fire. The Germans had emphasised its military potentials by shooting V2 rockets into London. Colonel Turner said the United States wanted to do better than the Germans. Missiles would be steered to specific objectives until a high degree of accuracy had been reached. He said that rocket propulsion, apart from military advantages, was uneconomic, “ even for travelling to the moon because of .the large and extensive equipment required for a small pay load of explosives.”
