Weather Prevents Planes From North Landing At Taieri
None of the three planes from the north was able to land at Taieri aerodrome yesterday because of the weather. Among the passengers in one of the planes were the Otago Rugby players who took part in the All Black trials at Wellington on Tuesday. All services to and from Invercargill ran to schedule.
The Otago players were on the first plane from the north, which was due from Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch at 11.30 a.m. The plane had to land at Waitaki aerodrome and all passengers were conveyed to Dunedin by car. The plane returned -north without a load and passengers from Dunedin were taken by car to Christchurch, where some boarded another plane for Wellington and the East Coast.
The second plane from Auckland and Christchurch, which was due at 1.45 p.m., also landed at Waitaki. Passengers from Dunedin this time were conveyed to Waitaki and caught the plane for its return flight to Auckland.
The last machine from Auckland, Wellington and East Coast, due at 4.35 p.m., did not come farther south than Harewood, where it stayed for the night. The plane is due to leave Harewood about 7 o’clock this morning and should arrive at Dunedin about 8.20.
