Orthodox And Personality Form Horses The principal race at the South Canterbury meeting on Saturday is the Elloughton Handicap, of one mile and three furlongs, and two of the runners who are assured of heavy support are Personality and Orthodox.
Personality, L. J. Ellis’s representative, has been racing very consistently and has been unplaced only once in his last seven races, his record for those races being a win and six placings. His best recent performance was at the Oamaru meeting in March, when he won the Gardiner Memorial Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter, from Kosher and Arctotis. That was on the second day of the meeting, and on the first day he ran third in the Oamaru Cup to Kosher and Balkis. Personality’s most recent race was in the President’s Handicap, of about one mile, at the Marlborough meeting, in which he was beaten by a nose by Brenlock, to whom he gave 81b. Orthodox, carrying 51b overweight, was third to Detention and Responsive in the Ashburton County Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter, and third to Resolute and Clyde Bridge in the Tinwald Handicap, of one mile, also at Ashburton. He finished very solidly from fifth into the straight. The five-year-old son of Sir Galloway i~ -artial to winter tracks and should l vorth following during the next few weeks.
