PLOUGHING MATCH
Papakaio Fixture On June 10
At the annual meeting of the Papakaio Ploughing Match Society. Mr E. H. Aubrey was re-elected president and Mr G. C. Hurst secretary. A strong committee was appointed. It was reported that delegates were sent to the annual conference of all- societies, and that Papakaio was allotted the first match, to be held on June 10. As draught horses were becoming almost museum specimens it had been decided to permit the use of tractors with remote control for the high-cut plough. A suitable paddock near Pukeuri has been offered by Messrs Paton Bros., and Mr G. Hunter had offered the use of an adjoining paddock for a car park. The balance sheet showed the society to be in a good financial position, and it was agreed to give liberal prizes in all classes. It was agreed to invite the North Otago Pony Club to put on a special exhibition, for which special prizes would be given, and to ask the North Otago Rugby Union to arrange a special Rugby match for the occasion.
Hydraulically-controlled ploughs are now past the experimental stages, and the society has included a class for these Implements.
