WINGATUI TRACK WORK
Gold King In Form By Springfield Proceedings have brightened up considerably at Wingatui in the past few days. The tracks are in splendid order, and have seldom looked better for this time of the year. A feature of yesterday morning’s proceedings was a halfmile by Man o’Kent and a solid run over six furlongs by Gold King. Gold King was standing flat-footed at the six and was slow to get under way, requiring 14 2-ssec for the first furlong.. He then got into his stride and reached the three in 39 4-ssec, coming home the full distance in Imin 19 3-ssec, the last half mile in 52 2-ssec. He worked wide out on the course proper and could have improved considerably. He will strip in good order for his engagement at Washdyke. Raineri was under a good hold all the way to complete a similar task in lmin 21 3-ssec, the first three in 39 3-ssec and the final half in 54 3-ssec. She should return to the winning list in the near future.
Fine Art was shading St. Bruno with a break to way Home at the' end of five furlongs in lmin 8 l-ssec, the first furlong in 12 3-ssec. St. Bruno is very fit at present and he may be taken to Ellerslie for the Great Northern meeting. His stablemate. Page’s Raid, is unlikely to make the trip. Bonny Royal Impresses
Bonny Royal was shading Tweedside, with breaks to Tring, Knight Crusader, Desert Trek, Phantom Night, Kiltie and an Alcanzar mare in H. A. Anderton’s stable at the end of a mile and a-quarter. the last seven furlongs of which required lmin 36 l-ssec. They took 54 l-ssec for the first half and 56sec for tin; last four. Tweedside should prove a useful performer for R. Heasley this winter. On his own Man o’Kent was running on at the end of half a mile on the sand in 51 3-ssec. He looks as though he may develop useful form. Western Front, who had the better of the weights, was in front of Grand Pal at the end of nine furlongs, the last half in 52sec. Both horses were running on at the post. After taking 12 3-ssec for the first furlong Cricket Field completed half a mile in 54 l-ssec. Speedy Filly The Finis-Palantua two-year-old filly from F. Shaw’s stable, had her first gallop on the course proper and she was going very easily at the end of three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. She may be given a race on the final day of the Dunedin winter meeting. A half-brother by Royal Style to Raineri and Master Galloway were in front of a full-sister to Winning Gem at the end of three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Blanket went well over two flights of the schooling hurdles. He is a s difficult horse to keep sound and may not do much racing until the tracks become heavy. Hansel went over eight flights, including the sod wall and double brush twice. He looks in good order and may surprise at Washdyke. Myme cleared four hurdles in fine style. A three-year-old Defaulter filly, she will probably make her debut as a hurdler at Wingatui next month. Riding engagements for Washdyke on Saturday includo:—G. Thomas.—Dinnyhazer, Humdinger; R. P. Langford.— Hansel; A. I. Powell.—Highthorne, Faites vos Jeux; N. H. Ellis—Tring, Kildare Lad; M. R. Soper.—Winning Gem, Friar Phillip; A. J. Murray.—Blanket, Money Bird; J. D. Pankhurst.—Gold King, Western Front; L. C. Smith.—Bonny Royal.
