LEAVING TODAY

Champion Cometist POSITION IN ENGLAND The Australasian champion cornetist, Mr Ken Smith, will leave on the first stage of his journey to England today. After his recent triumph in Australia with the St. Kilda Band, Mr Smith was offered a position with the worldrenowned Fairey Aviation Works Band as solo cornetist. He has accepted

the offer and will join the Rangitata on May 19 when she leaves Auckland for London. „„ „ For the past two years Mr Smith has been on the staff of 4ZB as a programme organiser, and his popularity with his fellow workers and the general public has been clearly indicated at the various farewell functions arranged in his honour. More than 2500 people attended his farewell concert in the Town Hall recently and members of the St. Kilda Band made use of the opportunity to present him with an expensive silver cornet. Mr Smith will travel on the limited express.
