RESOLUTE AMISS

Non-starter At Amber ley Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, May 12. Resolute will not start in the Amberley Handicap, the open seven-furlong race at the Amberley meeting tomorrow. She has shown signs of soreness this week and though she seemed all right when she went out for light work this morning, there was again evidence of soreness later, so L. J. Ellis has decided to leave her at home. With the safety number at 16, there is need for two scratchings in the Novice Stakes at Amberley to obviate the need for running the race in divisions. Most of the acceptors are from Riccarton stables and there were no indications up till this morning of any of the local lot being doubtful starters. A. McMullan has made a start with the education of Angora as a jumper. He has been restricted so far to the pony hurdles, over which he has shown great proficiency, and he will soijn be taken on to more serious tasks. He is a five-year-old Paper Slipper gelding and has shown some speed in his racing on the flat. Beaumaris was eased up when he came home from his Easter trip to Auckland, where he won the Great Northern St. Leger, but there has been a change in his programme. While he is resting yet, J. S. Shaw has started to take the colt to the track on alternate days. This does not mean that he is being got ready for racing early next season, for his four-year-old programme has not been seriously discussed, and no plans have been made. The only idea is to give Beaumaris enough exercise to keep him in good health. Daredevil, a winner at Hutt Park, who is engaged in the Ascot Vale Handicap at Oamaru today, is a five-year-old gelding by Quite Sure from Escapade, by Nelson Bingen from Country Belle, by Wildmoor from Bonnie Belle, bv Lincoln Yet from an Arab mare. Daredevil’s win last Saturday was his third of the season. He is trained by C. R. Berkett for Mr W. E. Stickings.
