USEFUL GALLOPS

Beaumaris And Sweet Spray ELLERSLIE TRACK WORK Special to the Daily Times AUCKLAND. Apl. 4. Beaumaris and Sweet Spray did a useful gallop at Ellerslie this morning in preparation for the first day of the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting on Saturday. They went a mile and finished strongly to shade Lord Revel at the end. Air Belle did a good five furlongs. Beaumaris and Sweet Spray were almost together just ahead of Lord Revel at the completion of a mile in lmin 45 l-ssec Lord Revel led in the early stages, but at the end could not hold Beaumaris and Sweet Spray, who finished strongly under a good hold after covering the last half mile in 50 2-ssec and the three furlones in 38sec. Beaumaris and Sweet Spray both worked attractively and could have done better. C. T. Wilson will ride Beaumaris in the Easter Handicap, and G. F. Hughes Sweet Spray In the Great Northern Oaks. After going fast to cover the first two furlongs in 25sec, Air Belle came home well to complete five in lmin 4 l-ssec, the best of the morning. A four-year-old brown mare by Airway from Te Marua, Air Belle has had only one start this season, running unplaced in the McDonald Memorial Handicap, of six furlongs, at Levin on November 5. She is speedy and as a three-year-old last season showed useful form. Air Belle is an entrant for the Hula Handicap on Easter Monday. Sir Vite was timed to run seven furlongs in lmin 34 l-ssec. He did not have much pace on in the early part, but came home in good style over the last six furlongs in lmin 19 4-ssec, and the half mile in. 52 3-ssec. Sir Vite is well and will have a chance to atone for recent failures in the President’s Handicap. Scratchings posted today for the first day of the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting were:—President’s Handicap: Biassed, 1.45 p.m. All 'engagements: Sea Wolf, 12.40 p.m.
