DREDGING AT OAMARU
Application For Finance REFERRED TO TREASURY The request for financial assistance required by the board for harbour dredging purposes had been referred to thp Treasury for investigation, stated a letter from the Treasury received at yesterday's monthly meeting of the Oamaru Harbour Board.' The secretary of the Treasury stated he would be pleased to learn whether the dredging programme now envisaged broadly conformed to that outlined in the board's previous application for financial assistance last year, and whether the estimates of cost then submitted were still approximately correct. A request was also made for a copy of the board’s financial statement for the year ended September 30 last. •• This, I think, is one of the fruits of our deputation to Mr Goosman a few days ago.” Mr A. McMillan, the chairman, said. Mr Goosman had received the deputation courteously, said Mr C. J. Dugdale. He felt that the board had a good chance of receiving some financial assistance for the dredging programme. The Minister had intimated that he was in favour of the decentralisation of shipping and If it did come he felt that financial assistance from the Treasury would not be necessary. ” I feel if the matter is delayed too long we should again make an approach to the Treasury,” Mr Dugdale said. “ Our dredging programme is urgent and I feel that if we do not get. Treasury assistance we should make some other arrangement for financial assistance for our dredging programme." The chairman, secretary and Mr Dugdale were appointed to reply to the Treasury.
