RUGBY SEASON

Opening On April 22 The recommendation of the annual meeting that the season commence on April 22 was adopted at the executive meeting of the North Otago Rugby Union on Monday night. Mr J. Macmillan stated that should the combination of the town and country competition fall through the date would be rather early. Mr F. V. Dennehy remarked that with the British tour commencing early this season, players would have a better chance of going into training early. Mr J. Firman was in the chair, and there were also p r esent Messrs J. Macmillan. H. Cross, F. V. Dennehy, A. W. Marshall. G. Bell, J. Benson, D. S. Loder and R Hunt.

Lengthy discussion took place on the fixing of the gate and season ticket charges and it was decided that at club matches the charges be Is to grounds and 6d to tile stand, and for representative matches. 2s to grounds and Is to the stand, ears 6d on both occasions. The season tickets were fixed a,t £1 for men. 7s fid for women, and 2s 6d for schoolboys, primary school children free. It was desided to close entries for the Senior. Junior, Third and Fourth Grades on Anril 14. It was further agreed that tine first round matches in the Senior Competition be played at Maheno as in cast seasons. It was reported that the insurance scheme for players had now expired, and it was decided to wait until the Waitaki Sub-union had discussed the new scheme before making any decision with respect to the current scheme. The secretary reported that Mr J. Finn had presented a cun to th n union for competition in the lower grades The sub-committees for the season were appointed as follows: —Grounds: Messrs A. Marshall. Mr J. Macmillan and Mr T. Booker, resident delegate, were appointed the North Otago delegates to the New Zealand Rugbv Union’s annual meeting. Mr Booker, subject to his consent, was also nominated for the South Island section of the New Zealand Rugbv Union. It was also decided to nominate Mr R. W. S. Botting as a vice-president to the New Zealand Union.
