As Chairman of the Committee of the above Homes, I have been asked to issue this letter to subscribers and friends of the Homes and to those in Otago who are interested in the work. J _. . _ , , , This work of the Children's Rest Homes was founded by Mr Sidney Dunkley in November 1918, and for over 30 years has done a very special work of great value to our community. This work provides a very necessary temporary home for young children when their mothers have to go to Hospital. Sanatorium, Maternity Home or Convalescent Home, and is giving such help week by week. In 1948. the Annual Meeting of the Society changed the name to the Dunkley Children's Temporary Homes, Incorporated, in order to link the name of the Founder ‘ Vlt *On l Aprii rl 24 of his year, Mr Dunkley will celebrate his Seventy-fifth Birthday, and the Committee have decided to ask all who are interested to join them in subscribing to a Testimonial Fund which will be paid to Mr Dunkley on his Birthday as a token of appreciation of his work for so many years. When Mr Dunkley started this work in 1918, he made a considerable sacrifice in selling his interest in the Firm of Spencer and Dunkley, Ltd., in order to purchase the first Home, and it is felt that he will not be able actively to engage in the work for many more years. . .. , , , The Committee feel sure that there are many who, knowing the grand work that has been done, will be pleased to in some way contribute to this Seventy-fifth Birthday Testimonial to the founder. . . , ... The Appeal will be of Short Duration, and closes on APRIL 24, and there will be no canvass for donations. ....... .... Will those interested Please Forward any Amount they feel disposed to give to Mr J G BUTLER, or leave same at the Homes’ Office? Mr Butler is a member of the Committee and has agreed to act as Secretary and Treasurer for the Apptal. Treasurer of Appeal: Mr J. G. BUTLES, 9 Springhill road, Mornington, W.l.
