IMPORT LICENSES

Earlier Date Wanted PA WELLINGTON, Mar. 22. The decision to announce import licences by July would not affect the supply of motor vehicles to New Zealand this year, but an earlier date would assist British motor manufacturers and local assemblers to plan for 1951 This was stated today by Mr A. W H. Brown, the representative m New Zealand of the Society of Motor Manufacturers, London. Mr Brown said that orders had to b*= placed at least six months ahead, particularly for unassembled vehicles. This had seldom been possible in the past because of the delay in announcing the import schedule. The result had been difficulty for both manufacturers and local assembly plants in planning their programmes.
