BUSY WEEK

Cricketers in Oamaru Although the season is now drawing to a close, cricketers in North Otago have a busy time ahead of them. In all, five representative matches are being played in three days, three senior and two junior, and with a full season of cricket behind them it is expected that the teams will do well. Today’s match against an Otago eleven will more than test the ability of the local players when such a world-class batsman as B. Sutcliffe will test the local bowling strength. L. D. Smith, the present Otago captain, will lead the Otago side, and no doubt he will wish to see if the local players have taken advantage of the recent coaching classes held by him in North Otago. Few changes have been made in the home team from that which was beaten on the first innings by South Canterbury at Timaru. J. Gosano has been selected on his few but enterprising innings for St. Kevin’s in senior cricket in North Otago. A. Cutler comes into the side as captain. Prior to his last few innings Cutler did not produce the form which was expected of him, but when he did. it was easily seen why he had been selected to represent Southland on many occasions. H. Kelk will also make his appearance again in a North Otago team. Kclk’s record in club cricket this season has been consistently good. Berry, Currie, Dick, Maddigan and McDiarmid will lead the attack, which should be well varied. All these players have good performances in club cricket, and playing on their home ground should give them a slight advantage over the visitors. The North Otago B team, which will play Waimate at Waimate on Saturday, also contains several experienced players, intermixed with the more promising youthful cricketers of the district, and it is expected that this team will give a good account of itself against the Waimate side. A return match against the Waitaki Sub-union A and B teams will be played by the junior representatives at Waitaki. On its home grounds Waitaki proved too strong in the previous encounters this season, but bright and enterprising cricket should be seen by the rising players of tomorrow. The Waitaki Sub-union teams to play the North Otago Juniors on Saturday at Waitaki are:— , „ A. H Wallace. T. Blunt, L. Campbell, W. Winchester, H. O'Brien, M. McCulloch, N. Johnson, G. Johnson, J. Dovey, A. Headley, J. Garden. B. J. McCtilly, F. Peterson, W. Cogger, J. McCulloch, T. O’Brien, K. Wood, McFaul, T. Watson, Hislop, R. Macaulay, A. Eckhold. J. Mathieson.
