TASMANIAN HOUSE

Dissolution Request

CONSIDERATION BY GOVERNOR

Rec. 11 p.m. HOBART. Mar. 21. The Governor of Tasmania. Sir Hugh Binney, promised the Premier, Mr R. Cosgrove, today to consider his request for the immediate dissolution of the State Parliament followed by an election. Sir Hugh may consult the British Home Office on procedure as no dissolution has been granted to a Government which has not completed its term and which is as yet undefeated in the House. Parliament wa's to have met on March 28. The Cosgrove Government was elected only 18 months ago, but because three Independents have withdrawn their support pn the issue of the appointment of Mr T. G. D’Alton, a former Australian High Commissioner to New Zealand, to a post in London, the Government will be in the minority of one after providing the Speaker. If forced to form a Government and provide the Speaker, however, the Liberals would also be in the minority.
