CLERGY PROTESTS

Mixed Marriages Act South African Minister Surrenders Licence CAPE TOWN, Mar. 20. An Anglican priest in Natal has resigned his appointment as a marriage officer and has surrended his licence to the Government as a protest against the Mixed Marriages Act passed last year (forbidding marriage between Europeans and non-Europeans). The Natal Mercury says that other clergy mav decide to take similar action. The Bishop of Natal, Dr L. N. Fisher, who is a brother of the Archbishop of Canterbury, has described the Act as “utterly stupid and unworkable.” A recent Government directive gave Anglican priests permission to return their marriage officer papers if they found " their position untenable or their ministry impeded”
