GOVERNMENT NOMINEES
Position Of Harbour Boards Policy Statement Awaited Special to the Daily Times NELSON, Mar. 21. “I realise I came in on the end of the pitchfork, and I am quite prepared to go out on the other end,” said Mr A. Jones, Government nominee on the Nelson Harbour Board, last evening when the board received a letter from Messrs Jones and E. P. Lock (another Government nominee) expressing appreciation of the courtesies extended to them during their term of office on the board. Mr Lock said they did not expect to be reappointed to the board. The chairman, Mr A. R. Kingsford, explained that these two members’ terms expired in April. What the Minister’s intentions were he could not say, but the board should express appreciation of the letter. Good work had been accomplished during the period Messrs Lock and Jones had been on the board, in that there had been better understanding between the board and the workers on the waterfront. The chairman said there must be an announcement by the Government shortly because the same position existed on boards throughout the country. Mr Lock is president and Mr Jones secretary of the Nelson branch of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union.
