PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS
Are “ Cats’ Eyes ” Effective? The opinion of motorists is being sought by the North Oamaru Citizens’ Association as to the effectiveness of “ cats’ eyes ” at pedestrian crossings. A letter to this effect was received at the monthly meeting of the North Otago Automobile Association, and it was referred to the Signposting Committee for a report, members of the executive being asked to make inquiries from motorists and also to express their own opinions to that committee. Mr W. M. Richardson was in the chair, and there were also present Messrs H. Hay, W. Gillies, M. Mirfin, A. C. Taylor, D. H. Sim. D. G. Mitchell, J. Rodman, H. C. Colquhoun, D. Giffin, E. Guthrie, O. Jones, J. C. Kirkness, and the secretary, Mr A. Francis. Messrs A. H. Rudduck and H. W. Gemmell wrote pointing out the desirability of erecting signposts at the entrance to Glencoe Domain. —It was reported that such a sign had been erected, but that it had since disappeared, being shot to pieces with rifles.—The request was referred to the Signposting Committee for attention.
A proposal to change the Motor World into magazine form did not meet with the approval of the executive because of the cost involved.
Twenty-eight new members were elected.
