ROLL NUMBERS INCREASE
John McGlashan College An increase in the number of pupils was reported by the principal, Mr J. Conolly, at the monthly meeting of the John McGlashan College Board of Governors. Mr Conolly said the roll now stood at 214. The chairman, Mr A. C. Cameron, reported that, in view of the increased numbers and in order to stimulate interest. it was deemed advisable to divide the boys into three houses instead of the existing two, Burns and Balmacewen. It was decided unanimously that, because of the outstanding contribution made to the college by Lady Ross and her family, ‘ the name of the new house be Ross House. The chairman and the principal reported on the arrangements being made for the garden fete and gala day, to be helil at the college on April 1, ior the purpose of augmenting the chapel war memorial funds. The fete is sponsored by the War Memorial' Committee, with active cooperation from the McGlashan Association and the Old Collegians’ Association. The cost of the first year of United States aid under the European Recovery Programme was about 31 dollars for every American man, woman and child, reports the National Industrial Conference Board, a private group in the United States.
