PICKED TO AVOID FROSTS

Because of the threat of frosts, Central Otago growers are now picking- green tomatoes for the market. Christchurchgrown tomatoes are also coming to hand, and are selling at prices on a par with those of last week, but green tomatoes are slow of sale. Heavy supplies of Cox s Orange, Jonathan, Alfriston and Dunne apples and supplies of Beurre Bose and Comice pears reached the market at the beginning of the week. Sales for apples are steadv, but pears are not selling readily. A few peaches and plums are still arriving, and prices for dessert lines are high. „ High prices are ruling for cauliflowers, which are short of requirements, and celery, which is scarce, is also in demand. Peas and marrows are plentiful, and prices for these vegetables are lower than they were last week.
