SPEEDWAY RACING

VISIT OF PALMERSTON NORTH TEAM

The Otago speedway team, which was narrowly defeated by Wellington last Wednesday, will represent the province in the final inter-provincial match of the season against Palmerston North at the Tahuna Stadium tonight. Otago will be led by Ron Johnston, and his partner in the match racing will be the greatly improved Evan Nesbit. Jim O'Kane and Aston Quin will again have an opportunity to display the strong combination they have built up. Tom Whelan is listed as reserve. The Palmerston North team, which will arrive this afternoon, is regarded as the strongest vet to visit Dunedin. It is headed by Alf. Clarkin and Peter Pollett, both New Zealand representatives. Clarkin, the captain, was placed second in the New Zealand championship last week. Paired with Clarkin is Brian McGee, who was also a member of the team which defeated the Canterbury golden helmet team earlier this season. The fourth member of the is Harry Mangham, a leading First Division rider and a nephew of the former champion of the same name The manager of the Palmerston North Speedways. Mr S. McCay, will arrive by air to see the contest.
