“JOURNEY FOR THREE”
NEW ZEALAND DOCUMENTARY FILM PRAISED BY BRITISH PRESS NZPA Special Correspondent Rec. 7.55 p.m. LONDON, Mar. 7. “A welcome and interesting documentary from New Zealand showing the reactions of three British emigrants to life in the Dominion ” is the description given by the Daily Telegraph to the New Zealand film “ Journey For Three,” now being shown in London.
The Manchester Guardian, remarking that several hundred documentary films have been made in New Zealand during the last 10 years but it is only now that one of them has been shown in this country, goes on to say: “ What is pleasant about this unpretentious little essay in self-advertisement—apart from its glimpses of magnificent snowcovered mountains—is that it states its argument with no apparent exaggeration. The New Zealanders’ life, it says in effect, may seen tough when judged by the standards of big industrial towns with their teashops and cinemas, but at least it isi a wonderfully open air life providing almost everyone with out-of-doors opportunities which only the British rich can enjoy: And it is certainly surprising that our own film-makers have not yet discovered the wonders of New Zealand’s mountains.”
