VOLTAIC IN FORM
CLASH WITH SWEET SPRAY AT TRENTHAM
Voltaic, winner of three successive Jackson Stakes, looks in fine form for his second race in the North Island Challenge Stakes on Saturday as a result of his win in the Waimana Handicap at the Masterton meeting at the week-end. In that race he carried 9.7 and recorded lmin 11 4-ssec for the six furlongs. He will not have things his own way on Saturday, as he will be opposed by a speedy three-year-old in Sweet Spray, a proved sprinter. Voltaic’s solidness, however, may carry the day for him. The other five acceptors hardly look up to the class of these two over seven furlongs, and their clash should provide one of the features of the opening day at Trentham.
Royal Saga capped off a long list of minor placings when she was successful in the second division of the Bradley Stakes at Motukarara on Saturday. The Battle Song mare should hold her own against the open class hacks over sprint distances around the minor meetings.
