SUCCESS AT RANDWICK

NEW ZEALAND-BRED MARE Ballroom, winner of the Warwick Handicap at Randwick last Saturday, is a four-year-old mare by Beau Vite from Dolly Bian, by Lang Bian from the imported mare Revinella. Dolly Bian did not race, but she is a half-sister to Foxella and Gay Corrie. Ballroom was sold at the 1947 yearling sales for 500gns. Bred on staying lines, it was not surprising that she took some time to show her best form as a two-year-old. However, with a bit of age. she has graduated to open handicap company, and has now proved herself a great bargain. Another New Zealand-bred horse in Brig o’ Doon was third in the same race. He is a five-year-old gelding by Battle Song from Marchette, and is trained by M. McCarten at Randwick. Marchette is a daughter of Limond and March, and she produced a brilliant but erratic sprinter in Ever England to Foxbridge.
