SPECTACULAR WELCOME

AUSTRALIAN EMPIRE GAMES TEAM Rec. 11.10 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 17. The city today gave a spectacular welcome to Australia’s Empire Games team. Only 34 members of the team marched through the city, but cheering crowds lined the streets 10 deep and filled every window along the route. Nine women athletes were headed by Miss Shirley Strickland and Miss Marjorie Jackson. At the Town Hall the team was welcomed by the English team, which did not march because it had given away its hatbands, ties and badges to New Zealand friends.
