SPLENDID RETURN
THE FARM
SEVEN LAMBS TO ACRE WEST OTAGO PROPERTY A particularly large consignment of fat lambs left “ Rosemerryn,” the property of Mr F. H. Chittock, Kelso, West Otago this week, a special train being required to take them to the freezing works at Finegand. There were 3270 lambs in the draft, and they came from mothers grazing on 800 acres of pasture. One of the best blocks of this 800 seres produced seven fat lambs to the acre, plus one store lamb per acre still remaining. To accomplish this, Mr Chittock, who carries a considerable number of dry sheep, had to put the latter to outside grazing during the past three months.
The total area of Mr Chittock's property is 1240 acres, the balance over the 800 acres required for the ewes and lambs consisting of cultivated crops such as clover, rye and dogstail.
When the draft was completed there were 500 ewe lambs and 800 store lambs remaining.
