First Fellowships In Dental Surgery To Be Conferred In Dunedin
An unusual ceremony will be held in Dunedin on February 27, when the first two fellowships of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons, England. to come to New Zealand will be conferred on the dean of the Otago Dental School, Dr J. I*. Walsh, and the director of the division of dental hygiene of the Department of Health, Mr L. Saunders. The fellowships will be conferred by the dean of the faculty, Professor Robert Bradlaw. who is a member of the British Dental Mission which is to arrive in New Zealand tomorrow to study the Dominion dental nursing scheme. The Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons was created about two years ago. Its fellowships are conferred by election. Dr Walsh yesterday told the Daily Times that they were being conferred on himself and Mr Saunders more as an honour to the dental profession in New Zealand than as a recognition of individual merit.
