WINGATUI BORE

SHED TO BE BUILT HOUSING OF EQUIPMENT Work is being carried out at the site of the Dunedin City Corporation’s artesian bore at Wingatui in preparation for the installation of a bore pump and a highlift pump to draw off 1,000,000 gallons of water a day and pump it to the Silverstream race to augment the city water supply. Both pumps have now arrived in Dunedin, together with some of the electrical equipment required. Before the pumps are actually installed, however, a shed to house the electrical equipment and the highlift pump is to be built near the bore. This work is now in progress. The laying of steel pipe to connect the bore with the Silverstream race has also to be completed. The bore pump will be sunk into the bore and will lift water to the surface, and the highlift pump will drive the water along the steel pipe up to the water race.
