WORK AT RICCARTON
MOONLIT IN GOOD JUMPING DISPLAY Special to the Daily Times , CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 15. There was a little useful work at Riccarton this morning, in preparation for the Dunedin and Banks Peninsula meetings, but the galloping on the flat, some of it on the No. 6 grass track, did not provide much excitement. Moonlit was schooled by himself over six hurdles He travelled at a sound pace and gave a very attractive exhibition of clean, fast jumping. He is booked for another trip to Wingatui. where he won two hurdle races at the summer meeting and as he is very well'at present, he will have to be reckoned with again. Description, a Baffles gelding, seven years old, in E. W. Rosewarne’s stable, was also sent out for some jumping education. but his display over hurdles was only moderate. To make matters worse for his connections, he was lame whep he returned to the stalls. H. Nurse, who had Tranbycroft, Marut. Love Letter and Symbolic racing at Greymouth, brought them home this
week, without waiting for the Hokitika meeting. Mariit and Love Letter met with slight mishaps and it was due to this that the Riccarton trainer decided to shorten his trip. Some of the team will be racing- again at . Motukarara. Mr C. O. T. Rutherford, of Blenheim, paid 400 guineas at Trentham last month for a four-year-old gelding by Ruthless from Golden Princess, by Lackham. The gelding has been sent to Riccarton, where he will be trained by C. B. Dawson. Mr 11. A. Rhind has secured a brown yearling fillv from Mr K. Austin, of the Inglewood Stud and has placed her in C. B Dawson’s stable at Riccarton. She is by Lord Bobs from Waltzing Matilda, by Paladin—Delice.
