RABBIT BOARDS
Sir, —I noticed in a recent issue of the Daily Times propaganda which I assume came from the Department of Agriculture. It is the same tripe they have been putting over at all rabbit board meetings—one pair of rabbits producing 10,000,000 descendants in three years. Any farmer who thinks for himself knows that this is nonsense. Take this district: More than 100 pairs of rabbits start the breeding season, but there is no 300,000,000 in three years! Make the rabbit valueless and you will soon have nothing else but rabbits: put a price on his head and he will be kept in control. My opinion is that the Government should do away with the Rabbit Council and all the rabbit boards, take the levy off the skins and put a subsidy on in the summer. It would be a lot less expensive than the costly rabbit boards. Many have been in vogue for a great many years now and not one a success. They are always going to do great strokes in the future, but tomorrow never comes and the rabbit lives on.—l am, etc., Retired Farmer. Waitahuna
