HEAVIEST BLACK MARLIN

ENGLISH SPORTSMAN’S CATCH

PA WHANGAREI, Jan. 23. On his first day out from Otehei Bay yesterday, an English sportsman, Mr F. H. Moorehouse, C.8.E., landed a 9181 b black marlin from the lfiunch Avalon. The fish was caught near Bird Rock. Hooked late in the afternoon, the fish fought for 2hr 40min before being brought alongside. Too heavy to be taken on board, the fish was towed to Otehei Bay wharf, where it was weighed. Mr Moorehouse came to New Zealand last November for trout and swordfishing. His catch earns for him the pin for the heaviest black marlin of the season to date. Before coming to New Zealand, Mr Moorehouse completed 30 years with the Imperial Bank of Calcutta.
