NAVAL OFFICER
DUNEDIN AREA NEW APPOINTMENT The Resident Naval Officer for Dunedin, Lieutenant-commander M. G. Collins, R.N., arrived at the week-end to take up his duties. This office is a new appointment for Dunedin. Commander Collins will also be the instructor officer for the Otago Division of the Royal New Zealand Naval Vol-
unteer Reserve, and will act temporarily as resident naval officer for Canterbury.
Commander Collins has been on loan to the Indian Navy for the past two and a-half years, assisting with the training of the personnel of the service. During the war he served in the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean, and Burma in the destroyer Hesperus and in three escort carriers on anti-sub-marine and convoy duties.
Commander Collins was born in Kent. While in Dunedin he will be a permanent member of the Selection Board which will interview candidates for entry to the New Zealand Navy.
