BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES FOUR OTAGO COMPETITORS PA AUCKLAND, Jan. 3. Ten women and 13 men have been selected for the New Zealand swimming team to compete in the British Empire Games at Auckland next month. The choice was announced at the final session of the New Zealand championships in the Olympic pool, Newmarket, tonight. The team is:— Women 110 Yards Freestyle.—Kristin Jacobi (Auckland), aged 18, . university student; Norma Bridson (Auckland), 21, pharmacist; Winifred Griffin (Auckland), 17, schoolgirl. 440 Yards Freestyle.—Helen Mackenzie (Auckland), 19, university student; Winifred Griffin. 220 Yards Breaststroke. —Margaret Sweeney (Auckland), 20, dressmaker. 110 Yards Backstroke.—Jean Stewart (Otago), 19, student teacher. 4 x 100 Yards Freestyle Relay.— Kristin Jacobi, Norma Bridson, Winifred Griffin, Joan Hastings (Auckland), 24, botanist; Helen Mackenzie, reserve. Hanan, who competed in the 1938 British Empire Games, will be captain of the team. The manage/ will be Mr L. J. Moorhouse, of Christchurch, a New Zealand representative at the 1928 Olympic Games. The chaperone will be Mrs A. D. Bridson, of Auckland.
