LARGE DOUBLES DIVIDEND

Over Five Hundred Pounds At Waikouaiti ROBINFAYE SUCCEEDS IN CUP That the doubles totalisator is popular with the public was convincingly demonstrated at the Waikouaiti Racing Club’s meeting yesterday, when 5260 10s tickets were taken on the doubles machine, and a large number of intending investors were shut out. Of those who backed the.winner of the first “leg,” Robinfaye, only eight supported Faustina for the second “ leg,” and the dividend was declared at £547 11s.

The meeting was held in ideal weathep and drew a record crowd which over-taxed the facilities.-The going was in splendid order. Robinfaye, the winner of the Cup, had to run the gauntlet of an inquiry into alleged crossing of Lord Elgin, but after the hearing of evidence, it was decided to take no action. Trench Fray appeared to be unlucky, as he gave away ground at the start. Whitley won the sprint decisively, but his task would have been harder if Vitamin had made a better beginning.

Robiniaye put up a fine performance to win the Cup as she did not begin well, but the unlucky horse appeared to be Trench Fray, who was last to leave with Broie. As they streamed past the post Flying Sovereign and Pageant were out in front followed by Lord Elgin, Beau Soir, Sir Abbot. Night Owl. Robinfaye, Langham, Trench Fray and Broie. Turning into the back, Pageantry was clear of Flying Sovereign, Lord Elgin, Sir Abbot, Beau Soir, Night Owl and'Robinfaye, with Trench Fray, Langham and Broie still at the back of the field. Lord Elgin went up to second to Pageant half a mile from home, otherwise there was little alteration in the running. Robinfave put in a run on the bend to be third to Lord Elgin and Pageant, followed by Sir Abbot, Beau Soir. Trench Fray, Night Owl and Langham. Continuing her run, Robinfaye drew up to Lord Elgin, with Pageant weakening. A fine race home saw Robinfaye winning narrowly from Lord Elgin, with Trench Fray finishing well for third, with Langham, fourth, followed by Broie, Flying Sovereign, Night Owl, Sir Abbot, anG Beau Soir. who were almost in line. TOP-WEIGHT SUCCESSFUL Vitamin was last to leave in the sixhorse field for the Toomey Memorial Handicap, and Whitlev began brilliantly and never lost the lead. Orthodox went with him in the early stages and at the far turn the pair were a good length clear of Western Winner, with Vitamin going up to fourth ahead of Red Pickle and Crease. The field bunched up running to the straight, into which the order was Whitlev, Vitamin. Red Pickle, ana Western Winner. Galloping freely, Whitlev went on to win by two lengths from Vitamin, and Western Winner was the same distance away. Crease was fourth ahead of Red Pickle, with Orthodox last. FAVOURITE NARROWLY The Cornaga High-weight Handicap provided another good finish, with Bren Gun getting the decision from Salmon King, the only other well-backed runner. The field went away to a good start and Vain Lad took up the running from Salmon King, Vanity King, Bren Gun and Chaffinch, with Indian Morn at the back of a close-running field. Bren Gun dropped back to fifth in the back stretch and at the far turn it was Vain Lad and Salmon King together from Vanity King, Chaffinch, Bren Gun and Indian Morn. Bren Gun swept up to the leaders on the bend and was with Salmon King into the straight. In a fine finish. Bren Gun just got there from Salmon King. Vanity •King and Vain Lad weakened and Chaffinch finished third and Indian Morn fourth. FAUSTINA SURPRISES Faustina got out well in the second “ leg" of the double, the Bray Hack Handicap, and led all the way to win decisively. Petty Cash was left and Faustina and Good Form were first out from Golden Winner, Exchange, Valid and Silver Clipper. Faustina was first into the straight, where Exchange, Good Form and Valid were also in the call. Faustina drew away and never looked in danger, winning by a length from Valid. FAVOURITE’S SUCCESS Royal Scrip was made a hot favourite for the Hawksbury Hack Handicap, and never further back than fourth, won well from another form horse in Indiana. Airshaft, Morning Watch, Indiana, Royal Scrip, Pacific Edition and Aberdare led past the post the first time, and down the back the order was Airshaft, Morning Watch, Royal Scrip, Pacific Edition, Indiana, Hormond and Assault. The order was unchanged three furlongs from home, and into the straight it was Airshaft and Morning Walch from Royal Scrip, Pacific Edition and Indiana. Royal Scrip easily gathered the leaders in and won from Indiana, who was clear of Pacific Edition. Morning Watch was a close fourth, and Assault and Airshaft were next. WINNER FROM GORE The finish of the Trial Plate was a good one, with Centurion just heading Hobgoblin, who was favourite. They left to a good line, but Miss Sunshine and Master Mariner were chopped back. Wild Eye. Nadir Shah,' Centurion, Acme and Levant were the leaders down the back. Levant went through to the front on the bend to lead into the straight, followed by Centurion, Nadir Shah, Hobgoblin, Wyldeye, and Acme, Hobgoblin got a slant on the rails and looked the winner halfway down the straight, but Centurion finished better than the favourite for the narrowest of wins. Royal Venture came from well back for third to beat Acme and the next to finish were Wyldeye. Nadir Shah, and Puck. DOMAIN TROT The Domain Trot was run in two divisions and in the first the early leaders were Attraction, Highland Prince, Eileen Lilian, Lumberjack, Highbred and Keretaki. Ebony Hall. Spring Park, and Cincinnatus led past the post but turning into the back True Dora, who had begun slowly, moved up fast to be second to Lisnaskea, and then came Ebony Hall. Highland Home. Ebonv Hall held on for third and Bay Jack came through for fourth ahead of True Dora. TINY SCOTT AGAIN Free Alecia was the early leader in the first division 6f the New Year Trot from Early Delivery, Spring Park, Ebony Hall, Predicament. Cincinnatus, and Red Sea. Tinv Scott put in a good run to be handy to the leaders at the far turn, where Free Alecia was still striding along in front. Free Alecia shaded Early Delivery, Tiny Scott.
