MANY CHRISTMAS CARDS UNDER-STAMPED
PA AUCKtAND. Dec. 29. Nearly 5 per cent, of Christmas card postings from Auckland overseas were under-stamped. This applied particularly to mails sent to Australia. Most of the under-stamping was on cards sent by air mail. This meant that a card weighing over half an ounce sent to Britain, and bearing Is 3d in stamps, would cost the recipient 2s 6d. The excess charge is assessed at Auckland and collected on delivery. , A feature of this year’s outward mail was the large use made of health stamps. The Post Office estimated that between 20 and 30 per cent, of all surface and air mail carried at least one health stamp.
