EXPLOSION ON STAR

REPORT BY CALIFORIAN ASTRONOMERS NZPA—Copyright WASHINGTON. Dec. 26. Two astronomers in California reported today that they had watched a giant explosion on a star that swept an area of about 8000 miles and shot the star’s temperature up an estimated 15,000 degrees. Dr and Mrs Gerald Kron, of the University of California staff, said that they saw the explosion through a 36inch telescope at Lick Observatory. Other astronomers said it was only the fourth recorded time that such a sight had been seen by human eyes. Usually such explosions are recorded only photographically. The Krons said the star had a diameter 60 times that of the earth.
