The American President Line had plans for a 100,000,000-dollar ship construction programme for west coast shipping, Mr George Killion the company's president, announced today. Mr Killion said the programme would give the company 22 fast, modern passenger and cargo liners for a weekly trans-Pacific freight service, a fortnightly round-the-world passenger and cargo service and a trans-Pacific passenger service every three weeks. He said the new vessels would be three luxury liners with accommodation for 2000 passengers (already under construction at Camden, New Jersey) two trans-Pacific passenger vessels and four cargo-passenger ships. Mr Killion said he hoped work would begin on the cargo-passenger ships next spring. These vessels would accommodate 60 passengers. They would have 525,000 cubic feet of cargo space and would cruise at 19 knots.
