“MISS NEW ZEALAND”
RETURN TO DOMINION PA WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. “Miss New Zealand, 1949,” Miss Mary Woodward, of Taranaki, returned to New Zealand on board the Akaroa from London this morning. Miss Woodward said her tour in Britain had been exacting, but most pleasant and interesting, and she would like to return to England and see at more leisure the cathedrals and v other sights. Her most memorable .-I occasion was being presented at a Victoria League reception to the . Queen. : - “ Her Majesty is charming and dignified, and intensely interested in what the people have to say,” said Miss Woodward. Miss Woodward was. met this morn-
ing by her parents, and her programme to-day involved a recording at the ■' broadcasting studios this morning, a ' press conference this afternoon, and tea with the Prime Minister, Mr Hol- -■’< land. She is returning with her <-' parents by car to New Plymouth, where there will be a civic reception at 10 o’clock to-night after the closing of the shops at 9.30.
